Come “See Life Illuminated” at the Magical Lantern Festival in London

 

In order to celebrate Chinese New Year and mark 2016 as the Year of the Monkey, the UK is playing host to the first ever Magical Lantern Festival, taking place at the picturesque Chiswick House and Gardens in London. This 65 acre grounds is the ideal location for 52 giant handmade lanterns, illuminated by 58,000 LED bulbs.

The beautiful creations were made by specialists in China and shipped to the UK. Each lantern is cut by hand from silk and the entire collection took three years to complete.

While this is a first for the UK, the Chinese lantern festival has been celebrated for 2000 years and always falls on the 15th day of the 1st month of the Chinese lunar calendar. This day brings an end to the Chinese New Year celebrations.
